So people always ask me what the difference is between a DMD and a DDS. Here is my understanding of it all...
Some people think that DMD stand for "dental medical doctor"... but they are wrong, it stands for Dentariæ Medicinæ Doctoris. It is similar to the MD degree Medicinæ Doctoris (note the ligature "æ")
DDS stands for Doctor of Dental Surgery... plain and simple
Some dental schools pick the Latin version, DMD, because it is cooler. (schools like OHSU)
